Scott Hamilton Donates to Cancer Center

The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Maine just received a $25,000 gift from Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton, through the Pioneer Fund, which is a Denver, Colorado-based foundation Hamilton sits on the board of.

According to the Kennebec Journal, the Skating Club of Maine head Priscilla Miller reached out to friend Hamilton when the center was opening. She invited him to speak at a fundraiser.

Though he was unable to attend, Hamilton did not forget his skating friends in Maine, Millier said, nor did he forget the patients battling the disease he was able to overcome.

"Scott is just a nice human being," she said. "It was very heartwarming to hear this news. I cried when the hospital called to tell what happened."
