Shen and Zhao's Olympic Tease

Here is a sweet profile on Chinese World Champions Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue from Shanghai Daily. It gets into their romantic relationship and talks about whether they'll compete at the 2010 Olympics. The pair won the 2007 world championships and then left the national team training program in China.

"The root of our career is still here in China," Zhao points out. He says the pair still hasn't decided whether they will compete in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. "It depends on our situation and future plans."

Perhaps they are still a bit reluctant to leave their competing days on ice, as they are at the peak in their career.

"It took us such a long time to reach our current status, and it is not easy to say good-bye," says Zhao. "But one thing is for sure: Whether we join the competition or not, we surely will appear in Vancouver in 2010, either as athletes or as spectators."

I guess the pair can't close the door on 2010 just yet!

I saw them at Stars on Ice and it was crazy! Side-by-side Triple Toes, Throw Triple Loops and Salchows, Split Triple Twists…um, they’re certainly fit enough to do the Olympics t this point.

What a nice article! Their love story is so wonderful. I have always loved them and it would be fine by me if they competed in 2010!

They will be back on the US SOI tour this season! I’ve loved watching them develop even since their Mtr. Olympus program in 1998. Can’t wait to see them again on the SOI tour. No matter what their Olympic plans are – their bronze medalfrom Torino is “golden” to me.
