Why is it, "Tonya Harding’s skating scandal?"
Why aren’t we still taking about Nancy Kerrigan and her poor behavior at the 1994 Olympics? Or are we still taken by her "better fitting" as the "‘all-American’ image"?
Remember that Kerrigan, "Immediately following her program, Kerrigan’s public image took a nose-dive." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Kerrigan. But no one seems to remind her of those miss steps.
In the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan fiasco the only person who was truly hurt was Tonya Harding. As Tonya stated, skating was all that she had. What struck me most was what she didn’t say, "…and that was taken away from me." She did not blame anyone for her lost years. She just wants to get on with her life.
To be banned for life from participating in United Figure Skating Association (USFSA) run events as a skater or coach, as in Tonya’s case, meant that her livelihood was taken away. At just 24-years-old, she had no means of earning a living.
Tonya could not work as a skater, or as a coach. In essence, she was banned for life from earning a living. After committing 21 years of her life to becoming the best skater she could be, she was banned from doing the only thing for which she had been trained.
What do you want, blood? Get over it folks. The woman has a right to live… We hold these truths to be self-evident… that they [men and women] are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Tonya, you can coach me anytime.

PliPr, your statements are delusional. Tonya Harding was the only one truly hurt? Perhaps you need a pipe bashed into your knees in order to identify with pain.
People would have more respect for Tonya Harding if she were to admit her being complicit in the assault on Nancy Kerrigan, and to stop using every opportunity to fish for public sympathy.
Compare that to the relatively quiet Kerrigan, who has truly moved on. Tonya claimed to Oprah that she moved on, but her words AND actions would speak otherwise. When asked what she would say to Kerrigan today, Harding said she would give her a hug (!) and concluded the very same sentence by reminding the audience / viewers (for the third time in the interview) that SHE was the first woman to complete a triple axle. Classy, huh?
And you wonder why people can’t stand her…
