The Switch is on: Caroline Zhang Edition
Former world junior champ Caroline Zhang is changing skating coaches. She is moving from Li Mingzhu to Charlene Wong, who until recently, coached former US National champ Mirai Nagasu, who made the move over to Frank Carroll. Confused yet? If so, then that must mean all is right with figure skating. Read more about it in the Orlando Sentinel.

what a laugh riot! i think it really proves that with a few exceptions athletes, performers, creative people need to change things up every so often to freshen up their perspective, and get new input. too bad mirai and caroline didn’t just do a coach swap…that would have been even more amusing. i really hope that everyone gets what they’re looking for in this game of musical chairs. frankly, given that li mingzhu worked with lu chen (and she’s a major favorite), i’m not excited about caroline’s shift. however, lu-lu had some major ups-and-downs and i’m not sure how much li played a role in the ups, rather than the downs.

Good points, all. I personally have a “grass is always greener” issue and I’m wondering if these skaters have the same problem! heh. I think I have to go back and look at some of the recent coaching switches of prior seasons and see what the results were. There have been so many though, that would probably take forever (and that’s not even counting the ones in this off-season that we have yet to see the results of).
