Nicole Bobek Implicated in Drug Ring

Well, this is a downer. Every once in awhile I wonder whatever happened to Nicole Bobek, the 1995 National Champion whose rebellious side always seemed to get in the way of her potential. Unfortunately, I've finally found articles that tell me what happened. She's been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to NJ.com. More than a dozen people were arrested in the drug ring.

She was arrested in Florida as a fugitive from justice based on the charges filed in Hudson County. Bobek did not fight extradition and was brought to New Jersey on Thursday by officers of the Hudson County Sheriffs office.

Bobek wore the green garb of the county jail when she appeared in the small video conferencing room at the jail. Her hair was short and dark colored, a stark contrast to the long flowing blonde locks she sported during her skating years.

DeFazio said the activity that led to charges against Bobek occurred in New York.

The article states that Bobek was in the "upper echelon" of the ring and faces 10 years in jail if convicted. She is being held on $200,000 cash or bond bail. Tribune Company's Phil Hersh has a recap of Bobek's troubled times. So sad. On a skating note, I will always be grateful to Bobek for bringing spirals to another level. But sad she couldn't make the most of her many skating talents.

I have to say this news is more upsetting to me than Micheal Jackson’s death. So sad.

I love to watch figure skating.Nicole Bobek in her prime was amazing.I am devastated to hear that she has spiralled the depths of destruction. She always had such a sparkling and beautiful personna when she performed.I often thought of what had happened to her and once prominent skaters like Oksana Baiul,Tonya Harding and Tara Lapinsky.

Such a pitty. She was so talented, and so HOT! To have everything and just piss it away, even in these times of financial hardship. I hope she finds her way. If not, I offer my expert counceling techniques.
