The Evgeny Plushenko Quote Machine
Need a quote? Ask Evgeny. Or his federation.
"You can't be considered a true men's champion without a quad."
"For someone to stand on top of the podium with the gold medal around his neck by just doing triple jumps, to me it's not progress; it's a regress because we've done triples 10 or even 20 years ago."
"Just doing nice transitions and being artistic is not enough because figure skating is a sport, not a show."
"When a person performs a quadruple jump, which is contested by a triple, and (both contenders) gain the same points, it raises questions."
We need to be jump happy. I wonder if he hates the ladies competition?
"Overall my basic position and attitude is that movement needs to go forward and never stop, never go back," the 2006 Olympic champion told the media. "I think people need to do lots of quads."
"If Olympic champion doesn't know how to jump quad … I don't know," Plushenko said after the result. "Now it's not men's skating. Now it's dancing. That's my point."
Bring back the old scoring system!
"With the old system, I would have won," Plushenko told reporters. "The new system is a little different. The quad is not valued anymore.
"I was positive that I won," Plushenko said. "But I saw that Evan needs a medal more than I do. Maybe because I already have one."
Actually you have three now Evgeny. I guess that first silver is an afterthought.
His coach thinks a crime was committed.
"This is nonsense. It is wrong. It is criminal. How can it be like this? They are killing figure skating and taking it back 20 years. They have robbed him of his destiny
"Any judge who thinks this is the right champion is a Cyclops. Without the quad, there is no difference between the men’s competition and the women’s. Why not let them skate together? Why not have it as a unisex competition in the Olympics?
Any gems I missed?

I liked this comment from ESPN's Jim Caple
referring to Plushenko’s comments:
He then bet reporters he is such an accomplished jumper he could leap over his own ego.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Here are a couple more real ones from Plushenko himself
"Without quadruples, I don’t know; sorry, but it’s not men. It’s not men’s figure skating."
and
“It’s clear why the judging system was changed because the United States and Canada don’t have anyone who can do a quadruple jump.”
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Good grief
He forgot about this dude named Timothy Goebel, the quad king?
I bet he’d take that one back when he saw the Canadian Elvis Stojko backing him up.
I'm pretty sure those 2 quotes came from just after the short program
so, yeah, he’d have to be more diplomatic now, to keep the equally bitter Stojko on his side.
Sigh. Plushenko would have left a much better impression on the world if he’d been gracious and taken his silver (of which he deserves to be proud) to add to his remarkable collection.
He was similarly pouty when Yagudin beat him years ago, but to this day, a viewing of their performances show Yagudin to be the clear winner, as well as being far more artistically gifted. Artistic elements have always been Plushenko’s weak point. That and his huge ego.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Thanks so much for these quotes
They are just amazing…in a bad way.
I’m happy Evan won because I think it was the right decision based on the performances. But after hearing Plushenko and Co. over the past couple of days I’m also happy that Evan won because Plushenko is obvious a terrible sport (not that we didnt’ know that, but this is pretty horrible). I also give Lysacek credit for being so classy in the interviews where he is asked to comment about Plushenko’s quotes ad nauseum.

I mean Evan called him a good guy in his Costas interview.
He is being way beyond the normal amount of class and niceness that is expected in these situations.
Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?
