It's being reported that Japan's Yukari Nakano is set to retire from competitive skating. While it will be sad to see the 24-year-old Nakano go, it seems evident that the Japanese team is too competitive for Nakano to stand out. She hasn't been able to make an Olympic team and she did not qualify for worlds last season. She's one of the few women in the world to land a triple axel, and she's been in the medal mix for years in international competition.

I wanted to comment on the post.

Hi Laura,
Sorry I’m late. :D
Yukari is my junior in both undergraduate and graduate (MA) school. (I’ve never spoken to her.) While she’d been continuing her competitive career, she got a master’s degree last month at age of 24! Really, she’s a hardworking girl.
I wish she could go to Vancouver, and I still believe that she was the one who should go to Torino Olympics instead of Ando.
She joined a TV company at the beginning of this month and started her second career.
Best of luck to her.
Thank you for the writing up!
