The famous International Skating Center of Connecticut, located in Simsbury, has been put up for sale. I first heard of the center back in 1994 when Olympic gold medalist (and teenager) bought a gigantic house in Simsbury and started skating at the rink. Since then, the rink has hosted a multitude of top-notch skaters and coaches, including Olympic gold medalists Ekaterina Gordeeva and the late Sergei Grinkov, Olympic silver and bronze medalist Irina Slutskaya, U.S. National Champion Johnny Weir, Tatiana Tarasova, Galina Zmievskaya, and U.S. National champion Scott Davis.
According to the Hartford Courant, the rink's owner, Jon Zieky, may already have found a buyer:
Zieky, who has owned the rink for eight years, said the group he is negotiating with "has plans to keep the rink 'status quo' and continue it moving in the direction that we started in 2000."
He is selling the rink because he wants to return to his previous job as a developer.
