Biggest Surprise: Color me Canada. For me it was Shawn Sawyer winning the Men's free skate, Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier getting the silver in Ice Dance, and just the amazing contention of Canadian skating in every single category (although I have to think that Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison's loss by the teeniest of margins in pairs had to hurt). Also, this was Skate Canada, where the top Canadian skaters are supposed to be competing. Still, look at what happened to the Americans at Skate America? The host nation is going to have a blast in Vancouver.
Biggest Disappointment: Caroline Zhang's performance here was worrisome for me. I didn't see any confidence or joy in her skating. It's also sad to see what's happening with Lysacek and I hope he can figure out what it is that he has to do to get higher scores in these programs.
Reason why Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto should be scared: Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
Reason why Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder don't need to be scared just yet: Nathalie Péchalat and Fabian Bourzat.
Reason why Patrick Chan might not become the face of Men's Figure Skating in Canada as easily as he might have though: Shawn Sawyer.
Skater we didn't really read too much about gaining confidence who seems to maybe have gained a little bit: Alissa Czisny.
My predictions were even more putrid than in Skate America. While I successfully predicted nine of the 12 medalists (not too bad) I only got one position exactly right (Patrick Chan winning the Men's). And my Ladies prediction was actually putrid; the only lady I had correct on the podium was Joannie Rochette and I pegged her for silver. Still, I am proud of my pick of Crone and Poirier to perform well...
