Somewhere, Daisuke Takahashi is breathing a sigh of relief; Evgeny Plushenko did not break his ISU free skate record. Plushenko scored a lowly 164.09 to win the men's event at the European figure skating championships today, way off Takahashi's mark of 175.84.
Still, it was more than enough to beat the rest of the field by about 17 points. So...
But, other big news is the rebound by Stephane Lambiel, who started the day back in fifth place but ended up in second! Wowee, an 85 for program components! Brian Joubert rounds out the podium, and the Czech Republic's Michal Brezina has arrived, he is in fourth place and is becoming a rather reliable skater.
