Two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan has been elected to the Special Olympics Board of Directors, according to the Associated Press.

Kwan is also a public diplomacy envoy for the State Department and on the President's physical fitness council.

The board of directors is the governing authority for the Special Olympics, responsible for its global affairs and strategies. Members are elected to a three-year term and may serve a maximum of nine consecutive years of service.
