Mao Asada to Work with Lori Nichol (again)

New, 7 comments

Reigning world champ Mao Asada will be working with Lori Nichol as her choreographer this season for her free skate.  Asada has worked with Nichol plenty of times in the past, but most recently has been choreographed by Tatiana Tarasova, in a style that I found to be a bit heavy for the skater.  From Breitbart.com

Asada will work with Nichol for the first time in two seasons while Tatiana Tarasova, who parted ways with Asada after the 2009-10 season, will choreograph her short program.

"I feel it's been a very long time since I last worked with Lori," Asada said. "The pieces of music I used for the free skate over the past two seasons were somewhat powerful. Next season, I'd like to skate to music which is mainly slow."

I don't know that "slow" is the right word...no one wants a slow skater...but maybe she means the music won't be quite as tense as the selections last season. I'm excited to see it.

What do you think?  Is this a good move for Asada?  Or do you think she needs an entirely new choreographer who she hasn't worked with yet?
