Day one of Cup of China is over and out! Here are the results.
On the men's side, Russia's Artur Gachinski continues to impress, with a slight lead over Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu. More experienced competitors Jeremy Abbott of the USA and Nobunari Oda of Japan are not too far behind. This was the best start to a men's competition so far in the Grand Prix...some much less sloppy performances than we have been seeing.

Russia's Kavaguti and Smirnov are out in front in pairs but pairs two through four are so very close together that the medals are really anyone's game.

In ice dancing, it's somewhat surprising that the USA's Shibutanis are not only in second place to Russia' s Bobrova and Soloviev, but by a rather wide margin. I will be interested to see what happened in their short dance.

On the ladies side, things got off to a much better start for Mirai Nagasu of the USA. She sits in second place behind Carolina Kostner (who I assume edged Nagasu out on the strength of her triple/triple combination). Both are several points ahead of Russia's Adelina Sotnikova, who had a fall.
