Olympic champs in ice dancing, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada, wasted no time getting back to form as they formed a slim lead in the short dance at Four Continents in Taipei. America's poor Meryl Davis and Charlie White will have to get used to being in second again...it's the first time they haven't led a competition all season. UPDATED: I believe they had a bit of a bobble on the twizzles. So if they are only one point behind a clean Virtue and Moir, that actually bodes well for them if they skate clean in the free dance...although it pretty much depends on how the judges like Virtue and Moir's free dance, which will surely be amazing.
In a bit of a surprise, Canada's Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje are in third (and decisively won the technical portion!) with the U.S.'s Maia and Alex Shibutani are fourth, with Crone and Poirier about four points out of third.
Not a great start for the American pairs in Taipei. Caitlin Yankowskas and John Coughlin are in fourth place, and Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig are in sixth. According to Twitter folks, Mark Ladwig's skate heel BROKE while they were skating, he was given three minutes to repair it, and then they finished the program. WOW. I hope someone posts on youtube! China's Pang and Tong dominated the short program, despite a deduction for running overtimea fall. They lead by more than ten points over Canada's Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers.
