Some additional news from the last couple of weeks

Here are some additional stories making the rounds from the past few weeks:

-The inimitable John Nicks received the EDI Coach of the Year Award from the Professional Skaters Association. Nicks has guided many successes over the years, including Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner, Sasha Cohen, Jenni Meno and Todd Sand, and the current U.S. National Champion Ashley Wagner.

About Wagner, Nicks said: "Ashley is a complete scatterbrain and listens to half of what I say," Nicks said, once again calling upon his dry English wit. "She is very critical of me; [she says] my hairstyle doesn't hack it, my clothes are too old-fashioned. Recently she said I was her 'Yoda.' My friend had to tell me Yoda was [that character] from Star Wars." After the laughter died down, Nicks added, "If it wasn't for Ashley, I wouldn't be here."

-Choreographer Pasquale Camerlengo won Choreographer of the Year. Speaking of Camerlengo, he recently choreographed for Plushenko. There's an interview on the topic in Icenetwork.

-Japan Times reports that Akiko Suzuki, Haruka Imai, and Kanako Murakami are all training at Detroit Skating Club these days, where Yuka Sato and Jason Dungjen coach and Pasquale Camerlengo choreographs.
